Well, David Stern will get his wish. Lakers on the back of Kobe Bryant
close out the San Antonio Spurs in five and advance to the NBA
Championship.
The Spurs made it a game however, the Lakers proved relentless by
overcoming a 17 point deficit and closing out the series in front of
their home crowd on Thursday night.
The role players of Luke Walton, Jordan Farmar, Ronny Turiaf, and Sasha
Vujacic looked like they had been playing together for 10 years. The
Spurs were first-to-the-punch in the first quarter by going up 17. Then
Phil Jackson stuck to his guns and put in the second team at the start
of the second quarter, which helped close the gap to 11 before Kobe and
Co. got it to only 6 points before half.
The game continued to be close all the way to the end of the fourth
quarter until Kobe took over. Kobe scored 17 of his 39 points in the
fourth quarter to help his team clinch and get a much needed one week
rest before the start of the of the NBA Championship.
Although the NBA playoffs has lost its excitement since the 'Jordan'
days, I think this NBA finals will help restore the Championship back
to prominence. After the Celtics win the series (no doubt in my mind),
we will all be thanking
Joey Crawford for helping bring us the most anticipated NBA finals in over a decade.
