It's finally over. 31 days of unprecedented media coverage of one man's
un-retirement - over. Brett Favre was traded late Wednesday night to
the New York Jets.
The draft pick traded for Favre is a conditional 4th round pick. The
details consist of if Favre takes 50% of the snaps for the Jets in '08
then the 4th round pick becomes a 3rd. If Favre takes 70% of the snaps
and the Jets make the playoffs it becomes a 2nd round pick. Of course
there is always an upsale, if Favre takes 80% of the snaps and the Jets
make the Super Bowl that 4th round pick will turn into a 1st round pick.
Most likely the Packers will be holding the Jets 3rd round pick, and a good possibility of a 2nd round pick.
With Favre immediately given the red-jersey in camp, this will mark the
end-of-the-road for Chad Pennington. It has been reported that Chad
Pennington will be released to make roster space for Favre. This will
give Kellen Clemens the apprenticeship position underneath Favre.
The move will no doubt make the Jets relevant again and the Jets
organization could not be happier. "We just felt like this was an
opportunity to go get somebody of Brett's stature and what he's
accomplished. We felt it was in the best interest of the team, and when
the opportunity presented itself, we felt it was the right move for us
to make and we went ahead and did it.", explained the Jets General
Manger, Mike Tannenbaum via conference call.
Somewhere Tarvaris Jackson, Jeff Garcia, and Aaron Rodgers are all smiling.
