Tony Gonzalez Wants Out Of K.C.
By: SCUBA

All-World Tight End Tony Gonzalez has "asked the Chiefs to explore
trade possibilities", according to Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star.
That sound you just heard was the sound of the Earth
cracking......OK.... that might be pushing a bit. But that should be
what every Chiefs fan should be feeling right now....like we are on the
Titanic without life-vest.
The Chiefs are currently 1-4 and feeling no urgency to get any better
in the foreseeable future. I understand the Chiefs objective is to
rebuild by getting much younger. I also understand that the least the
Chiefs can do for Gonzalez is try to get him to a Super Bowl contending
team. However, the Chiefs are asking for only a 3rd round
pick....that's it. That's it for arguably the greatest Tight End of
all-time. A Tight End who has gone to more Pro Bowls than any other
Tight End in NFL history, including last year's Pro Bowl.
This would be the 2nd Pro Bowl player the Chiefs would trade from last
season, the first being Jared Allen. The Chiefs received the Vikings
1st round pick along with two of their 3rd round picks.
The only good that could come of this for Cheifs fans is that the trade
might not happen, which could be the case. The teams that have
expressed interest in Gonzalez thus far are Green Bay, Buffalo,
Philadelphia, and the New York Giants.
The Giants have expressed the most interest so far. The Giants are
offering a 6th round pick while the Carl Peterson and the Chiefs
organization wants a 3rd rounder.
The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday. For Chiefs fans that day can't come
soon enough before Peterson decides to give away Gonzalez for a 6th
round pick and a
box of bats.
