The Bengals get a Tank

The Cincinnati Bengals took a step to improve their above average defense (#12 rated in 2008) by signing ex-Cowboy, Tank Johnson.

The 27 year-old free agent has spent the past two season with the Cowboys bringing to the table a sub-par 33 tackles and 3 sacks over the course of his tenure in Dallas.

Tanks' most notable time was spent with the Bears where he spent three seasons while helping the defense take the team to the 2006 Super Bowl.

Tank had some off-the-field problems with the Bears after an 8-game suspension stemming from a gun possession charged got him dropped from the Bears in 2007.  Tank did end up spending two months in jail for violating probation.

Jerry Jones (of course) rolled the dice on Tank giving him another shot in Dallas.  And now the Bengals, who are no stranger to suiting-up convicts, are taking a chance on the guy.

To Tank's defense, he has not had any off-the-field issues over the past two seasons with the Cowboys.

Regardless, the Bengals arrest sheet would rival any small mob family.  Actually, when I picture Tank Johnson landing in Cincinnati for the first time, I picture Marvin Lewis welcoming him with open arms like Paulie did to Henry after he got pinched for the first time in Goodfellas

"I thought you'd be mad I got pinched.  No, i'm proud of you...."

despite the past history of Tank this is a good signing for the Bengals. They need some help up front on the d-line and this provides that, and will also help them be more flexible in the draft.
No doubt about it....I still think Tank has talent. And that is talent that the Bengals can use.
