With all eyes on Mickelson, Lucas Glover stays steady in the final round to win the 109th U.S. Open.
Going into the final round Glover was second on the leaderboard behind
Ricky Barnes. Although Mickelson was expected to close in on Monday, which he did was unable to crack the lead in the final stretch. Once, Glover was a top the leaderboard he never looked back. He held the lead and never gave it up after the last 12 holes.
Glover didn't have much for magical U.S. Open moments for the win. He had only one birdie in the final round at the 16th. With the conditions that weekend his consistency is what proved to beat out the field, including Mickelson playing in his own N.Y. backyard.
Lefty fell apart at the end by missing a couple of par putts over the final four holes which proved costly. However, Mickelson has had a very emotional week which most of us were pretty surprised he was there at the end.
David Duval showed that he's not dead to the PGA yet. Duval the number 882 player in the world, who has been winless in eight years tied for second with Barnes and Mickelson at 2-under. Tiger ended at even.
With this major Glover catapults himself up to the number 18 golfer in the world.
