Derrick Mason Calls-It-Quits
After 12 NFL seasons, and as the Baltimore Ravens most productive receiver the past four years, the 35 year-old Derrick Mason announced to jocklife.com that he is retiring.

The retirement has been quite a surprise to the NFL and even shocking to the Raven fan's.  With 100+ receptions in 2007 and only one season with less than 1000 yards receiving (2006) his production has not tailed off in his later years in the NFL.

It has been speculated that Mason has been requesting a new contract but negotiations have stalled.  This combined with the death of friend Steve McNair could have been reason enough to end his tremendous career.

"After 12 years, I have seen it all and done it all," Mason stated via jocklife.com. "Right now, I am content with the decision I am making. All good things come to an end, and I am ready to see what else life has to offer."

With only Mark Clayton left as a notable receiver on their depth chart, look for Baltimore to make a move for either Brandon Marshall or Anquan Boldin.

This isn't like a Jordan or Favre retirement is it? I mean really, what do athletes have to do after they retire? Become awkward hosts of ESPN segments? I'd play a few more seasons while I still could.
Mason was the Ravens only dependable threat so the pursuit of Boldin, Marvin Harrison or even Ocho-Stinko could heat up.
