Matt Stafford named starter for the Lions
Even though Daunte Culpepper outplayed Stafford this preseason, the Lions brass have named him the starter at quarterback going into the opener.

Gone are the days of getting drafted in the first round and sitting behind the veteran QB for a year before you get your chance.  Apparently, when you're the number one overall draft pick who signs a contract for $72 million, with $41.7 million guaranteed people now want you out on the field in week 1.

The success of Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco, have obviously had a something to do with the Stafford decision, but is it the right decision?

Stafford will get his first chance to prove the organization right when the lowly Lions travel to New Orleans this Sunday.  On the bright side.....the team can't do any worse than they did last year.

Seems like the NFL is having a run on starting quarterbacks named "Matt". This ought to be an interesting season with Matt Stafford starting for the Lions, Matt Cassel starting for the Chiefs (hopefully) and Matt Ryan starting (2nd year) for the Falcons. Let's hope the Lions and Chiefs enjoy the same success with their new "Matts" that the Falcon's have enjoyed.
