King James Announces He Will Change His Number To 6
After the Cavaliers took one from Miami 111-104, and with Michael Jordan courtside, Lebron James made an announcement.
James was so grateful that Jordan took time out of his life to come watch Dwayne Wade and James face each other, that he felt the NBA as a whole should honor Jordan in a different way.
James announced that he will change his number 23 to 6 (his favorite number) in honor of his idol Jordan.
James stated that all teams in the NBA should retire the number 23 because of his contribution to the game and being a pioneer of basketball. The NHL did this exact thing with the number 99 jersey of Wayne Gretzky's.
I think James notion is good one. I think we could all easily see David Stern and the NBA retire the number 23 because of what Jordan meant and still means to the game of basketball. However, as Jalen Rose pointed out on SportsCenter, changing his number to 6 may not be the best move. Bill Russel wore the number 6. And what Russel did for the game of basketball in that era should never be overshadowed by what Jordan was able to do.
